Heifer
The first AGS trip in our freshman year was to heifer ranch in Perryville, Arkansas. We began the trip with a long overnight bus drive to Arkansas. Then we arrived at heifer ranch and split into two "Villages" I was in global village two. We were then divided again into our countries which we would be simulating the daily lives of for the next two days, I was put in the Indian slums. Then during the simulation we ate as a person living in the Indian slums would, slept in a wooden house that was representative of a house in the Indian slums, as well as did chores that Indian people would do. The simulation was fun and definitely gave me more perspective into how different the daily lives are for some people in the world, it did get quite cold and we had to end up staying in the heifer building for the second night. After the simulation we took the bus to little rock Arkansas where we visited Bill Clinton's presidential library as well as Little Rock High School, which was the first white high school to accept black students back in 1957. Both the library and the high school were very interesting to see and I especially enjoyed that part of the trip. We then went to a camp in Tyler TX and ate some good food and did some team building exercises to close out the trip. Overall my I had a great time on the trip to Heifer and it was one of my best memories of freshman year.
